Eligibility
Any parent newly diagnosed with cancer, currently going through cancer treatment & those living with a secondary diagnosis who have children under 18 years of age living with them from anywhere I the UK & Northern Ireland can apply for support for their children.
What do you offer?
- Provide a support pack containing Ozzy the Elephant teddy (Under 10’s), Journals (Over 6’s), Flashcards (Under 10’s), Books (Under 8’s), Fidget Toy Under 11’s)
- Fund up to 3 local activities
- Send at home activities for when Mum/Dad is having treatment.
- Bring families together with our Together Time days (currently limited to the North Wales & North West areas due to grant requirements).
- Peer to Peer Support for ages 11-18 years through our Trust Goes Outdoors programmes (currently limited to the North Wales & North West areas due to grant requirements).
How do we get a referral form?
You can download the form in English or Welsh via our refer into us section, complete it and email it back to us via our email the-osborne-trust@outlook.com or post it back to us at the address on the form.
Additionally, we can email you over the form to complete with someone involved with your treatment/healthcare or by another charity/organisation you are working with.
ALL sections need to be completed to be eligible.
Can we self-refer?
Yes, you can self-refer. Referrals are made by several agencies, charities, and NHS centres/workers, but if you hear about us elsewhere and you’re eligible, you can self- refer in.
A referral form must be completed before you can access our services.
The bottom half of the form must be completed by someone involved with your treatment/healthcare or another charity/agency who is involved with you and has seen site of the correct documentation.
Do you have to have a specific cancer to apply?
No. You just need to be receiving some form of treatment for your cancer or living with a secondary/terminal diagnosis to apply.
Do you need to live in a certain area to be eligible?
No. We support children during a parent’s cancer all over the UK and Northern Ireland
How long does it take?
Please allow up to 2 weeks for us to make contact, we aim to get your support packs posted off to you within a week and try and arrange your first activity as soon as possible. If you’re applying near the end of your treatment, we will still honour your activity if you finish your treatment after we get back to you.
What do you mean by a local activity?
By local we mean activities in and around your area, anything over an hour’s drive away from you will not be considered unless where you live is rural.
What kind of activities do you fund?
- Local cinema
- Eating Out (Pizza, Nando’s, any national chain restaurant)
- Local farm parks
- Outdoor activities such as Go Ape/Tree Top Treks etc
- Trampolining/Bowling/Ice Skating/Inflatable Fun
What activities do you not fund?
- Theme Park tickets
- Zoo tickets (unless the child is under 3 years of age, then we may consider it using our discretion.)
- Football, Sports, Concert Tickets
- Anything that isn’t classed as local to you (usually more than a 30-minute car drive away).
- Weekend breaks
- Holidays
- Spa days
- Nursery, breakfast, afterschool and/or holiday club fees
- Cash
- Food parcels
- Grants.
I have finished treatment and just found you, can I apply?
Unfortunately, no. The support is for children during a parent’s primary cancer treatment NOT when treatment has ended. This does not apply if you have secondary cancer or are living with incurable cancer.
