Local Respite Activities

Our local respite activities aim to reduce isolation felt by many children during a parent’s cancer and relieve some of the financial burden placed on families with a cancer diagnosis. The idea is simple, the cancer patient takes the time to rest during their treatment whilst an adult from their network takes the kids off on a local day out/activity.

Choose up to 3 local activities for the kids and an adult from your network to go on. Activities such as a cinema visit, trampolining session, bowling at your local centre, a day at a local farm park or some food at a restaurant (preferably a national chain as this is easier for us to organise). Go Ice Skating at your local rink, take on the ninja warrior near where you live, go for a costa with a friend (teens only) or get outdoors at your local go ape centre. The possibilities are endless. These are the idea we came up with, please ask the kids what they want to do, feel free to add your own on the referral form.

Unfortunately, due to us being a small charity and not wanting to duplicate what other charities offer, we only offer small local activities, by local we mean within a 30 min drive, we will look further afield if where you live is rural and the nearest town/city is further away.

We do not fund a zoo trip (unless the children are 3 and under), safari parks, football games, music concerts or theme parks. We do not offer any cash/grants. We do not offer any childcare costs. We do not cover any transport or refreshment costs. We do not purchase any food from supermarkets. We do not fund any holidays. We do not cover any travel expenses or refreshments whilst at the activity.

WE DO know of other charities we can refer you into for these if you meet their eligibility criteria. Please ask.

Help make a difference. Become a Fundraiser.

Set yourself a challenge! Bake a difference, get your schools, college, work place, gym class involved and do a group fundraiser. Be as creative as you like. Use what you like to do and turn it into a fundraiser and get your networks involved. Organise a tea party, hold a ball, and take part in dress down Friday, so we can continue to support children during a parent’s cancer treatment.
